Benjamin Ankomah, beter bekend als Bnnyhunna, is een Ghanese artiest uit Amsterdam Zuidoost. Muziek werd zijn uitlaatklep tijdens een uitdagende jeugd, waarbij hij piano, drums en gitaar leerde spelen in de kerk. Zijn unieke geluid is beïnvloed door legendes als Fela Kuti en Kendrick Lamar. Na de middelbare school begon hij zijn muziekcarrière en werkte samen met artiesten als Rimon, Jose James, Arp Frique en Akwasi.

Matthew Mole is een soort muzikale alchemist die een mengsel brouwt van folk, elektronische tovenarij en een flinke scheut excentriciteit. De platinum-verkopende artiest noemt het bruisende Zuid-Afrika zijn thuisland.

The eight-piece Highlife band, founded in 2022 by Rim Akandoh Jr., draws inspiration from Ghana’s rich musical heritage. They have been performing across Ghana for some time and recently released their debut studio album Man Shall Be Free (Afro Urban Project, 2025). In April 2026, the band will embark on their first international tour across Europe.

This concert is part of the Sonora festival. Sonora starts with a vinyl listening session by 1.06 Library followed by a performance by Rim Akandoh Jnr & Amamere, and a DJ set by Kala Cité.

A collaboration between two bands that both see it as their mission to bring the sound of Gnawa to a global audience. The young musicians Hamouda, Amine, and Ahmed join forces with the duo SAMIFATI: Sami on violin and electronics, and Axel responsible for the visuals.

This concert is part of the Sonora festival. Sonora starts with Book Club Eu, where we will discuss the book A Quick Ting on Afrobeat by Christian Adofo, followed by a performance by Phantom Wizard and Samifati & Transe Gnawa Express.

De Sahara-rockband Tamikrest werd in 2006 opgericht in Tinzawatene door Ousmane Ag Mossa en Cheikh Ag Tiglia. Geïnspireerd door de band Tinariwen wilden ze de stem van het Kel Tamasheq-volk laten horen. Met hun mix van psychedelische rock en traditionele Toearegklanken ontwikkelden ze hun eigen geluid. Hun derde album ‘Chatma’, opgedragen aan de vrouwen van de Sahara, wordt beschouwd als een belangrijk album in de Ishumar-muziek en won in 2013 een Songlines Award voor Beste Album.
