This seminar by Solani Ngobeni (South Africa) examines the state of the university press in order to highlight the role that the press can play not only in pushing the frontiers of scholarly knowledge production but also to show how a university press can be an effective ambassador of a university if it is properly managed.

This trans-national railway line (TaZaRa) , stretching some 1865 km from the Indian Ocean to the Zambian Copperbelt, was China’s largest global development intervention at the time. Built in the midst of Pan-African solidarity as well as Cold War rivalry, TAZARA became an enduring symbol of China’s friendship with Africa.
