Exhibition on the Third floor: Photos on Senegal by Loïs Diallo. Loïs Diallo's photo exhibition is inspired by the beauty of Senegal. The first time she visited Senegal, in particular the Island of Gorée in 2010, she was deeply impressed by the country and its inhabitants. She thinks Senegalese people show that richness has nothing to do with what you own. Exhibition in the ASCL Library: African portraits in weaving. The ASCL Library is pleased to exhibit a series of hand-made weavings of African portraits, made by Celine Michel.

There will be no less than 10 top groups at the Afrikafestival in Hertme in the Netherlands. The world famous Senegalese Youssou N'Dour, is this summer’s absolute top act at the 28th Africa Festival Hertme. With his band Super Étoile de Dakar he closes the two-day festival. Hertme is also again this year the centre stage of both legendary names and up & coming talent. Pat Thomas, Sam Mangwana, Orlando Julius, Orchestre Les Mangelepa and new groups as Songhoy Blues from Mali and Moh! Kouyaté from Guinea are reassuring the festival visitors. A total of ten bands will be performing on the first weekend of July in Hertme.

Het Amsterdam Roots Festival, 19e editie, wordt gehouden van 30 juni tot en met zondag 3 juli 2016. Met het gratis Roots Open Air nu in het Oosterpark op 3 juli 2016. En op de andere dagen de Roots Indoor concerten in theaters als Melkweg, Paradiso, Bimhuis en North Sea Jazz Club.

Georges Adéagbo lives and works in Cotonou and Hamburg. He has been acclaimed as one of West Africa’s foremost artists ever since his contribution to Documenta in 2002 called, “The explorer and the explorers facing the history of Exploration. The World-Theater…!” . His installations have been exhibited in Europe, the two Americas, and even Japan, but remained virtually unknown in West Africa itself. He builds his installations up from artefacts, objects trouvés from everyday cultures, as well as from illustrations and sculptures that he orders from sign-painters and form wood-carvers.

In a collaboration of different generations of South-African artists and the Dutch producer/guitarist Joep Pelt different music styles as Pennywhistle Jive, Hip-Hop, Mbaqanga en Kwaito are being melted together. The result is a dynamic show which will move the crowd! Supported by Afrovibes Festival & the Performing Arts Fund. De twee vriendjes nemen natuurlijk hun knuffeltjes Mevrouw Konijn en Welpje mee. Eenmaal daar raken ze al snel bevriend met Anns dochtertje Tiri en haar knuffel Schildpad. Vanaf vrijdag 29 april 2016 tot en met 8 januari 2017 presenteert het Wereldmuseum Rotterdam AFRIKA 010. Deze tentoonstelling omvat de meest opmerkelijke stukken uit de bijzondere Afrikacollectie van het Wereldmuseum samen met enkele bruiklenen van andere Rotterdamse musea. De tentoonstelling toont de verrassende en dynamische veelzijdigheid van Afrika in het licht van verandering en vernieuwing. AFRIKA 010 biedt een hernieuwde kennismaking met de Rotterdamse Afrikacollectie en is aanzet tot een stadsbreed festival.

Beste vriendjes Casper en Emma staat in deze spannende film een groot avontuur te wachten: ze gaan naar Afrika, want daar werken Emma's moeder en haar vriendin Ann als dierenarts. De twee vriendjes nemen natuurlijk hun knuffeltjes Mevrouw Konijn en Welpje mee. Eenmaal daar raken ze al snel bevriend met Anns dochtertje Tiri en haar knuffel Schildpad. Tijdens een safari vinden de drie een verlaten leeuwenjong, dat ze Leo noemen. Maar waar is de moeder van het dier? Casper, Emma en Tiri gaan op zoek. The Hague African Festival viert zijn achtste editie. Je kunt je geen zomer meer voorstellen zonder het wervelende The Hague African Festival. Africa in the City barst op 10 juli weer in volle glorie los op het Haagse Spuiplein. Ook dit jaar heeft de organisatie weer enkele uitdagende, breed musicerende bands en acts uit alle windstreken weten te strikken voor het festival: Oké Sène & Band (Senegal), Rabasa (Kaapverdiaanse diaspora), Zoumana Diarra (Mali), Mokoomba (Zimbabwe) en nog veel meer.

Georges Adéagbo lives and works in Cotonou and Hamburg. He has been acclaimed as one of West Africa’s foremost artists ever since his contribution to Documenta in 2002 called, “The explorer and the explorers facing the history of Exploration. The World-Theater…!” . His installations have been exhibited in Europe, the two Americas, and even Japan, but remained virtually unknown in West Africa itself. He builds his installations up from artefacts, objects trouvés from everyday cultures, as well as from illustrations and sculptures that he orders from sign-painters and form wood-carvers.

Soweto Soul! tributes the musical soul of the townships. In a collaboration of different generations of South-African artists and the Dutch producer/guitarist Joep Pelt different music styles as Pennywhistle Jive, Hip-Hop, Mbaqanga en Kwaito are being melted together.
