Filmfestival: Africa in the Picture
Over the years, Africa in the Picture has created a loyal audience; one that craves other images of Africa than those we see on the evening news. In the early years the audience consisted mostly of Dutch people, and African people living in the Netherlands. This changed in 1993 when the festival welcomed a selection of films from the African Diaspora. Since then, the Afro-Caribbean audience has also found its way to the festival. In 1995 the festival opened its doors to cinema from North-African countries, and in doing so, to the North-African communities of the Netherlands.
Africa in Motion Film Festival 2012
This year the festival theme is Modern Africa. It will focus on films and events that represent Africa as part and parcel of the modern, globalised world – the urban, the new, the provocative, the innovative and experimental. The festival's organisers regard “modern” not as belonging solely to the “West”, and through the festival they want to emphasise Africa’s important role in the modern world.
One Day Africa Film Festival
As part of the ASC's 65th anniversary celebrations, we are presenting a one-day Africa Film Festival in cooperation with Africa in the Picture. Four recent films by African film makers will be screened for the very first time in Leiden and can be seen on the last day of the Leiden International Film Festival. Each film will be introduced separately and there will be a Q & A session, hopefully in the presence of one of the film makers.
