This legendary band was formed in the late 1960's by guitarist Mamady "Djelike" Kouyate and singer Emile Soumah. They made some of the most beloved music of their generation. Now based in New York, Mamady Kouyate has decided to revive The Ambassadors. Every Wednesday night.

There will be no less than 12 top groups at the Afrikafestival in Hertme in the Netherlands. They come from Mali to Ethiopia and from Réunion to Cape Town. Mahmoud Ahmed, Ethiopia's most famous singer, will be on stage on Sunday. Also big Mandingo-names such as Sékouba Bambino from Guinea Conakry and Kassé Mady from Mali will be there. This 27th edition on 4th and 5th of July 2015 is characterised by afrofunk and swinging, mysterious voodoo sounds by 12 top groups. Het Amsterdam Roots Festival, 18e editie, wordt gehouden van 30 juni tot en met zondag 5 juli 2015. Met het gratis Roots Open Air nu in het Park Frankendael op 5 juli 2015. En op 30 juni, 3 en 4 juli de Roots Indoor concerten in theaters als Melkweg, Paradiso, Bimhuis en North Sea Jazz Club.
