TIMBILA. This show celebrates the release of a collaboration years in the making: a double CD by New York Afrodelic roots band TIMBILA, and Zimbabwean mbira maestro Chartwell Dutiro. The release date is May 1, 2017, and the title is Sadza With the Head of a Mouse…  Chartwell has played the Shona mbira (a high-performance prongophone) virtually his entire life. He’s cut a remarkable path through African music from his village childhood in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) where he played ceremonies with a local spirit medium, to his years performing and recording with Zimbabwe’s iconic Afropop band Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, to his more recent career as a teacher, solo artist and bandleader in the U.K.

This legendary band was formed in the late 1960's by guitarist Mamady "Djelike" Kouyate and singer Emile Soumah. They made some of the most beloved music of their generation. Now based in New York, Mamady Kouyate has decided to revive The Ambassadors. Every Wednesday night.

Vrouwelijke drum and Marimba band: Afrikaanse drums voor mannen? De kleurrijke en energieke Abafazi zetten het traditionele beeld en de zaal op zijn kop. Met drums, marimba en zang nemen de tien Zuid-Afrikaanse dames het publiek mee op reis door de muziek en cultuur van Zuid-Afrika.

Een van West-Afrika's meest iconische dansbands is terug! 10 jaar na de release van hun laatste album en bijna een halve eeuw na oprichting maakt Orchestra Baobab een comeback met een tijdloze set die bol staat van klassieke, zwierende melodieën die Afro-Cubaanse ritmes en Afrikaanse tradities samenbrengen. Het nieuwe werk klinkt vertrouwd, de gerijpte sound die Orchestra Baobab legendarisch heeft gemaakt is hoorbaar, maar de toevoeging van energieke, levendige twists maakt het ensemble boeiender dan ooit.
