New Photography, MoMA’s longstanding exhibition series of recent work in photography, returns this fall in an expanded, biannual format. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, New Photography is expanding to 19 artists and artist collectives from 14 countries, and includes works made specifically for this exhibition. Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, MoMA will also launch an online platform featuring selections from the archive of the New Photography series, including documents and images from the series' 30-year history. Het programma van het 28ste International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam (IDFA 2015) is bekend. De laatste jaren was er een teleurstellend aantal documentaires uit Afrika zelf. Onder meer: Aida (Egypte), Coming of Age (Zuid-Afr.), Lamentation (idem), The Siren of Faso Fani (Burkina F.). Dit jaar kent het festival wel weer een flink aantal films en makers over Afrika.

Seminar: Digging deeper than before. Social and technical change in artisanal gold mining in Siguiri, Guinea Conakry. In this seminar, Dr Cristiano Lanzano (The Nordic Africa Institute) draws from his ongoing ethnographic work in artisanal mining areas in West Africa to describe how migrant miners from neighboring countries and technological innovations have contributed to the rapid transformation of work conditions and institutional settings of gold mining around the village of Tonso (Upper Guinea, prefecture of Siguiri). Het jong gitaartalent Bombino is een Toeareg van Agadez (Niger) en een vertolker van de echte blues. Hij leerde gitaarspelen in een tijd dat het bezit van een gitaar ten strengste verboden was. Het deerde de Afrikaan geen moment en binnen no time groeide hij uit tot een lokale legende. Langzamerhand beginnen echter ook de critici buiten Afrika zijn betoverende gitaartonen te waarderen.

In samenwerking met het Netwerk Slavernijverleden worden er pakketjes van kennis aangereikt in de vorm van verschillende gastsprekers. De aanleiding is de Afro-Nederlandse Encyclopedie, die Zwart zijn in Nederland belicht vanuit verschillende perspectieven, en die in 2016 online komt. Eerbetoon aan Nelson Mandela, de Zuid-Afrikaanse held die 2 jaar geleden overleed. New Urban Collective organiseert i.s.m. Krater Art & Community op Amandla the spirit of resistance. Het leven van Mandela stond in het teken van de strijd voor mensenrechten, vrede en verzoening. Een inspirerende avond waarbij we activisten, academici en artiesten samen brengen in de geest van Mandela en de strijd tegen Apartheid. De avond begint met een half uur durende voorstelling van Likemind's Factory over anti Zwarte Piet-activist Kno'ledge. De avond wordt voortgezet met sprekers als onder andere Marjan Boelsma (anti-apartheidsactivist) en artistieke bijdragen van onder andere Untold, Paa Kofi en Smita James. Er zijn verschillende kraampjes met kleurrijke producten en lekker eten aanwezig.
