Tinariwen komt uit de Sahara tevoorschijn met een magische wervelwind van Malinese blues en rock. Als een sluimerende storm betoverde de band de oren van artiesten als Coldplay, Thom Yorke, Brian Eno en The Rolling Stones. Tinariwen is een groep Toearegmuzikanten (een nomadenvolk uit Afrika). Verdreven uit hun nomadenbestaan zingen ze over politieke bewustwording, onderdrukking en vrijheid. Met traditionele Afrikaanse en elektrische Westerse instrumenten speelt de band hypnotiserende muziek.

Ticket to the Tropic's afterparty na Tinariwen met live optreden van Mdou Moctar. Mdou Moctar is niet je gemiddelde Toearegmuzikant. Als een van de weinigen verlegt hij muzikale grenzen en zoekt het experiment op. Zijn eerste album ‘Anar’, veel psychedelische gitaren met synths en autotune, was een groot succes in de mp3-netwerken voor mobiele telefoons van West-Afrika. Het tweede album, live opgenomen in zijn thuisstad in Niger, had een rauwer geluid met meer rock. Live zijn het een drummer en twee gitaren, die een gruizige en schurende rock maken waar je niet op stil kunt blijven staan.
