Legends celebrating Mandela

As part of the nationwide centenary celebrations of Nelson Mandela’s posthumous 100th birthday: Joburg Theatre brings together four living South African musical legends; Jonas Gwangwa, Abigail Khubeka, Sipho ‘Hotsticks’ Mabuse, and Dorothy Masuka together with the nation’s foremost youth vocal ensemble, the Mzansi Youth Choir for a 3 night only concert to honour and celebrate, in song, the late great global icon, Madiba. Audiences can look forward to an evening of music, intertwined with story and imagery, as the living legends share their musical memories, experiences, and inspirations they drew from South Africa’s founding father. This is one not to be missed; it promises to be a concert like no other. Accompanying the legends and choir is a five piece band which consists of on bass, Sabelo Mtshali on piano, Billy Monama on lead guitar, Siphiwe Kubheka on drums and Prince Lengoasa on horns.

Life is Wonderful - Mandela's Unsung Heroes

Discover the story behind the infamous Rivonia Trial, where Mandela and his co-defendants fought for the freedom of South Africa, in this new film.

Directed by former high court judge Sir Nick Stadlen, the film follows the 10 leading opponents of apartheid and their lawyers and supporters through the trial. It is an inspiring story of immense courage and self-sacrifice on the part of a small group of multiracial idealists.

Though the defendants were saved from the death penalty, eight of the ten were sentenced to life imprisonment, Mandela among them. When Mandela was released 27 years later, he had a vision of multiracial democracy for South Africa.

Tata Madiba. Father of our democracy: Father of our Nation.

The upgraded Tata Madiba exhibition content and objects are meant to stimulate conversation about his life, struggles and extraordinary contribution to protection of South Africa’s rich biodiversity; but also connect to contemporary issues around conservation and sustainability.  The exhibition also includes the many species named after him and those he and his fellow prisoners may have encountered on Robben Island.  The exhibition includes as its central piece the iMadiba Project which is a participatory art project conceptualized and created by artist and photographer Erhardt Thiel. It is endorsed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation The intention of the installation or micro museum is to facilitate dialogue, memory, reflection and forward thinking. The combination of the Tata Madiba exhibition and the iMadiba Project art installation is therefore an apt marriage to celebrate the centenary of this great statesman Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

MIAGI Youth Orchestra (Zuid-Afrika)
Woensdag 01 Augustus 2018 20:00

MIAGI is een afkorting van 'Music is a great Investment'.
