Samen met North Sea Round Town presenteert LantarenVenster het eerste Rotterdamse concert van Richard Bona’s allernieuwste project Mandekan Cubano. Zijn stem versmelt op een meesterlijke wijze met jazz, bossanova, pop, afrobeat, en funk.

There will be no less than 10 top groups at the Afrikafestival in Hertme in the Netherlands. The world famous Senegalese Youssou N'Dour, is this summer’s absolute top act at the 28th Africa Festival Hertme. With his band Super Étoile de Dakar he closes the two-day festival. Hertme is also again this year the centre stage of both legendary names and up & coming talent. Pat Thomas, Sam Mangwana, Orlando Julius, Orchestre Les Mangelepa and new groups as Songhoy Blues from Mali and Moh! Kouyaté from Guinea are reassuring the festival visitors. A total of ten bands will be performing on the first weekend of July in Hertme.

Legendarische Afrikaanse band zet al sinds de jaren ’70 Nairobi op zijn kop met onweerstaanbare songs, nu voor het eerst op tournee door het Westen. 40 jaar geleden werd in Kenia het legendarische Orchestre Les Mangelepa opgericht door musici uit het Swahili sprekende deel van Oost-Congo. Hun shows in de jaren ’70 waren adembenemend: afrokapsels, jumpsuits, wijde pijpen en plateauzolen. Maar nog steeds weten zij de dansvloer op te schudden met hun klassieke, spectaculaire sound.
