Eerst even een leerzaam feitje: een zitakula is een exotische, parkiet met groengele kleuren en een onderscheidende lokroep. Maar in dit geval zijn het negen gasten die een afrofunk-experiment zijn begonnen in 2013, een zeer goed gelukt experiment met vele muzikale wortels. De negen bandleden delen hun liefde voor het groovy geluid van Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor en Mulatu Astatke. Daaraan voegt ieder zijn eigen ingrediënten toe: funk, jazz, samba, rock, blues, hip hop en soul. Sinds zijn oprichting maakte Zitakula snel naam met zijn hypnotische ritmes en een strakke show met harde breaks, Afrikaanse ritmes en westerse jazz en funk en lekker veel improvisatie.
