Sultana Haukim currently is artist in residence at the Thami Mnyele Foundation studio in Amsterdam. For the past few years her work has been focused on issues related to the fate of women in our modern society. Her themes seem often to develop from personal experiences towards certain issues that she is faced with as a Muslim woman and a human being. Living on a multicultural island which has a great influence from Africa and India, she is very much concerned about the condition of women living in countries which are predominated by patriarchal society. European Conference on African Studies: African dynamics in a multipolar world
The fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5) will be organized by the Centro de Estudos Africanos - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Center of African Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon) on behalf of AEGIS, the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies. Its general theme will be ‘African Dynamics in a Multipolar World’.
