ASC Lunch seminar: Towards a history of the Anglophone “problem” in contemporary Cameroon
Ever more the Anglophone speaking population of Cameroon, at home and in the Diaspora, has come out to demonstrate in numbers to restore what they view as “the independence of Southern Cameroons”, in an area they call Ambazonia. These demonstrations have increasingly been met by suppression and military force, which culminated on 1 October 2017, in a day of violence, in which many citizens were shot and killed and countless people maimed. This seminar will examine the history behind the Anglophone crisis and the response of the state. In looking for a solution to the problem, it will pose the question, what is the way forward, now?
